Toy Design

Students design and produce a physical toy for a specified age group, integrating user-centred research, material selection and prototype fabrication. The unit emphasises safety considerations, inclusive design principles and the relationship between form and function.

Students identify a target user group, conduct primary and secondary research into toy design, analyse existing products, and develop a design brief with safety and usability requirements.

Criterion A teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.

Students develop a detailed design specification, present a range of concept designs with material considerations, and select a final design justified against the specification.

Criterion B teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.

Students fabricate the toy prototype using appropriate tools and materials, document the manufacturing process, record deviations from the plan, and apply finishing techniques.

Criterion C teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.

Students test the toy with target users, evaluate against the specification, consider safety and sustainability impacts, and propose evidence-based improvements.

Criterion D teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.
