What is this? It's a kitchen discovery game, inspired by Neal Agarwal. Drag and drop items on one another to create new items. There are 200+ discoveries, including prepared foods, dishes, meals, and a small number of questionable masterpieces.
Why was it made? Very specifically, I created this as a brainstorming activity during a grade 9 interdisciplinary project. The students are creating food trucks, and I wanted to encourage more variety than burgers and tacos. This page kept our entire grade 9 cohort focused and making culinary discoveries for an hour.
How was it made? It's a lightweight static site, using HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. I reused code from an existing 'Infinite Composites' project, so this was primarily focused on building the pairings for food items. The entire game is really two JSON files, one list of discoveries and one list of 260+ recipes, plus a few hundred lines of JavaScript that combines things, breaks things back down, and remembers what you have found. The entire build was created using Qwen3.8-27B, running locally on my purpose-built AI PC.
Under the hood. Every pair of ingredients can produce at most one result, and every discovered item can be broken back into its ingredients, so the whole catalogue is one big map you can travel in both directions. Your discoveries are stored only in this browser (localStorage) and never leave your device. The sounds are synthesized live with the Web Audio API, so there are no audio files at all, and the water + oil explosion is pure CSS keyframe animation.
Inspiration. Directly inspired by Infinite Craft by Neal Agarwal. If you haven't played it, or visited his wonderful site, you're in for a treat!
