How to use the Task Analysis Generator

This tool helps you build a Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA) — breaking a user's overall goal into a sequence of observable steps.

• Drag any card by its grip strip at the top to reposition it freely on the canvas.
• Click + on any step card to insert a new step immediately after it.
• Click ≈ to add a cognitive load note to a step — use this to flag where users must remember, decide, or switch focus.
• Click × to delete a step. The first step cannot be removed.
• Click on any card text to edit it directly.
• The Goal card always shows your original task. Lines connect each step to the next and finally to the goal.

Cognitive load notes appear in the lower section of a step card in a contrasting colour. Use them to identify: where users hesitate, make errors, or abandon a task.

Example loads a sample HTA. Clear resets to a single blank step. Download saves the canvas as a PNG image.
