Grade 10 · Year 5Teacher Resource

Product Design

Students undertake an extended product design project that synthesises skills developed across the MYP programme. Working independently, they identify a genuine need, conduct in-depth research, design and fabricate a solution, and critically evaluate their process and outcomes in preparation for DP Design.

Students define a real-world design opportunity, conduct comprehensive primary and secondary research, analyse existing products in depth, and produce a substantiated design brief and research summary.

Criterion A teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.

Students develop a comprehensive design specification, generate and evaluate a range of design alternatives using CAD and hand sketching, and select a final design with detailed justification.

Criterion B teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.

Students produce a high-quality physical or digital prototype following a detailed plan, demonstrate advanced technical skills, document the creation process, and manage their time and resources effectively.

Criterion C teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.

Students design and carry out a testing plan, evaluate findings against the specification, reflect critically on the entire design process, and propose substantiated improvements considering social, cultural and environmental impact.

Criterion D teacher notes and task guidance will be added here.
